Day by day
Day 1 · Marrakech to Imlil & Aroumd
Drive to Imlil (1,740 m), the trailhead village, then a 1-hour walk to Aroumd. Settle into a simple but comfortable Berber house.
Day 2 · Aroumd to Tizi Oussem
Climb to the Tizi n'Mzik pass (about 2,480 m) and descend into the Azzaden valley to the village of Tizi Oussem. Mules carry the gear.
Day 3 · Tizi Oussem to Azib Tamsoult
Up the Azzaden valley to the Tamsoult waterfalls, then on to the summer pastures of Azib Tamsoult for a night under the cliffs.
Day 4 · Azib Tamsoult to the Toubkal Refuge
A longer day over the Aguelzim pass (about 3,500 m) to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m), base camp for Jbel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. You don't have to summit: the views from the refuge are extraordinary.
Day 5 · Toubkal summit (optional) & down to Imlil
For those who choose it, a pre-dawn climb to the summit (4,167 m). Then a long descent back through the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch to Imlil.
Day 6 · Imlil to Marrakech via Asni
A gentle day down from the mountains. Visit a Berber herbalist and, on a Saturday, the weekly souk of Asni, then continue to your riad in Marrakech.
Day 7 · Marrakech — Departure
A few hours of hammam and massage, then transfer to the airport.
