Your 5-day Sahara adventure begins with pickup from your Marrakech hotel or riad. Drive across the scenic **High Atlas Mountains** and cross the famous **Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m)**, stopping along the way for photos, coffee breaks, and to enjoy the breathtaking mountain landscapes and Berber villages. Continue to **Ait Ben Haddou**, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can hike up to explore the ancient kasbahs and learn about their history as iconic filming locations for movies and TV shows. In the evening, continue to **Ouarzazate**, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,†for your overnight stay in a comfortable hotel .
After breakfast, leave Ouarzazate and drive through the lush **Draa Valley**, the longest river valley in Morocco, dotted with thousands of date palms. Stop at scenic villages along the way for coffee or rest. Visit the bustling **Rissani Market** (open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays) to experience authentic local life and see handicrafts, fresh produce, and livestock trading. Continue to **Merzouga**, the edge of the Sahara Desert, where you will relax briefly before starting your **camel trek** into the dunes. Arrive at a **nomadic desert camp** in time for sunset, enjoy a traditional Berber dinner, gather around the campfire with local music, and spend the night under the stars in a comfortable desert tent.
Wake up early to watch the spectacular **sunrise over the dunes**, then enjoy breakfast at the camp. Begin a **4×4 desert excursion** to explore the Merzouga region. Visit fossil-rich areas, meet **nomadic families**, and learn about their traditional lifestyle. Stop at the historic **Mifiss coal mines**, then head to **Khamlia**, a small village known for its **Gnawa music and African-inspired dances**. Enjoy a traditional lunch in the village, then return to the hotel at the edge of the dunes for overnight.
After breakfast, depart the desert and drive towards **Todra Gorges**, stopping in **Rissani** for a visit to the traditional market and the **El Khottarat** underground irrigation system. Arrive at the gorges and take a hike along the towering canyon walls, enjoying the dramatic scenery. Continue through the **Dades Valley**, stopping at viewpoints to admire the breathtaking landscapes, and check in to a hotel overlooking the valley for a relaxing evening.
On your final day, journey through the fragrant **Valley of Roses** and the palm groves of **Skoura**. Visit the historic **Amridil Kasbah**, a 17th-century fortress still owned by the founder’s descendants and operated as a museum, to learn about traditional Berber life. Continue to **Ouarzazate**, then cross the High Atlas Mountains back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon and concluding your unforgettable 5-day Sahara desert adventure.
