Tour Itinerary

Morning (Approx. 9:00 AM): Fes to Volubilis

Your day trip begins with a pickup from your hotel or riad in Fes. We'll embark on a scenic drive of approximately 1.5 hours through the fertile Saiss plains, dotted with olive groves and wheat fields, towards the ancient Roman city of Volubilis. Upon arrival, you'll meet your local guide for an immersive tour of this impressive archaeological site. Wander through the remarkably well-preserved ruins, admiring intricate mosaics, the grand Triumphal Arch, the Basilica, the Capitol, and former Roman villas, learning about the city's history as a thriving outpost of the Roman Empire.

Late Morning: Moulay Idriss Zerhoun

After exploring Volubilis, we take a short drive to the nearby holy town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun. Perched dramatically on two hills, this town is one of Morocco's most important pilgrimage sites, as it holds the tomb of Moulay Idriss I, the founder of Morocco's first Islamic dynasty. While non-Muslims cannot enter the mausoleum itself, you can explore the charming narrow streets of the town, soak in its spiritual atmosphere, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and Volubilis from a viewpoint.

Midday - Afternoon: Meknes Exploration

Next, we continue to the Imperial City of Meknes, founded in the 11th century and later made a capital by Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century. We'll stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Meknes (not included). Afterwards, with a local guide, you'll discover the city's historical highlights, including the magnificent Bab Mansour Laleuj, one of the most beautiful gates in Morocco. We'll also visit Heri es-Souani, the vast royal granaries and stables, and the impressive Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. A stroll through Place El Hedim, the bustling main square opposite Bab Mansour, offers a glimpse into local life.

Late Afternoon: Free Time & Return to Fes (Approx. 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM)

Depending on time, you might have some brief free time to explore the souks of Meknes before we begin our return journey to Fes. You'll be dropped off at your accommodation in the early evening, enriched by a day of historical discovery and cultural immersion.

This day trip was a highlight of our time in Fes! Volubilis was incredible, so much history and the mosaics are stunning. Our guide there was very knowledgeable. Meknes is a beautiful city, and Bab Mansour is truly majestic. Moulay Idriss was a charming stop too. A long but very rewarding day.

A fantastic journey through Moroccan history. Our driver was excellent, and the local guides in Volubilis and Meknes provided great context. Seeing the Roman ruins and then the grandeur of Meknes in one day was amazing. Comfortable transport and well-paced. Highly recommend!

Loved this tour! Volubilis is fascinating, and our guide really brought the history to life. Moulay Idriss is a beautiful town with great views. Meknes has some incredible architecture, especially Bab Mansour. It's a packed day, but definitely worth it to see these important sites from Fes.
