Your day begins with a pickup from your Marrakech hotel or riad. We'll embark on a picturesque drive south-east towards the Ourika Valley, a journey of approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. As we leave the city behind, the landscape transforms, revealing the stunning foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. If it's a Monday, we may have the chance to stop at the vibrant Tnine Ourika weekly market, a bustling hub where locals from the surrounding villages gather to trade goods.
Our first main stop will be at a local women's Argan oil cooperative. Here, you'll learn about the traditional methods used to extract this precious oil, renowned for its culinary and cosmetic properties. You'll see the women at work and have the opportunity to purchase authentic Argan products. Following this, we'll visit a traditional Berber house, where you'll be welcomed with customary mint tea and gain insights into the daily life, culture, and architecture of the Amazigh people who have inhabited these mountains for centuries.
We continue our journey deeper into the valley to the charming village of Setti Fatma, the last village accessible by road and the gateway to the famous seven waterfalls. Upon arrival, you'll have the option to hire a local mountain guide for a hike to explore one or more of these beautiful cascades. The hike can be adapted to different fitness levels; reaching the first waterfall is relatively easy (approx. 30-45 minutes walk), while reaching all seven requires more effort and appropriate footwear. Enjoy the refreshing mountain air and stunning views.
After your exploration or hike, it's time for lunch. There are many delightful restaurants in Setti Fatma, often with tables set right by the river, allowing you to dine with the soothing sound of flowing water and picturesque views. Savor a traditional Moroccan tagine or grilled meats while enjoying the tranquil ambiance of the valley. Following lunch, you'll have some free time to relax, take more photos, or browse the local souvenir stalls.
As the afternoon winds down, we'll begin our scenic drive back to Marrakech. You'll carry with you memories of the stunning natural beauty, the refreshing mountain streams, and the warm hospitality of the Berber people. Expect to arrive back at your accommodation in Marrakech by the early evening (around 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM).
A lovely day trip to Ourika Valley! It was such a refreshing escape from Marrakech. The visit to the Berber house was very insightful, and the Argan oil cooperative was interesting. We opted for the hike to the first waterfall, which was beautiful. Our driver, Hassan, was great. Highly recommend for a taste of the Atlas Mountains.
Ourika Valley is stunning! The drive was scenic, and our guide for the waterfall hike was excellent (worth hiring locally). Lunch by the river was a highlight. It was a Monday, so we also got to see the bustling local market which was a great cultural experience. A very enjoyable day.

A good trip to see a different side of Morocco. The valley is pretty, and the Argan oil cooperative was informative. The hike to the waterfalls was a bit more challenging than expected for some in our group, but the scenery was nice. Lunch options were plentiful. Overall, a worthwhile excursion.
